You can’t pay me to prompt

Did you noticed the new badge stamped atop my website?

This reflects my current stance on “AI” use for my professional work.

TL;DR: I don’t use AI. If that surprises you, either you’re new here (welcome), or you skipped my ranting and raving in recent weeks. Although my blog is not invisible to my clients (note to self) these posts are not exactly the best references. I have written a more formal AI policy:

No AI; that’s the gist. There’s a little more nuance to it. And enough wiggle room should I need to beg forgiveness from The Singularity in six months. I explain my reasoning and will update the policy over time should the situation change. This is a first draft.

To preempt the expected comments from those who can’t read good:

    “I disagree…”

No you can’t disagree, this is my policy! I’m not asking anyone to adopt it or convince anyone of the conclusions I’ve reached. However, If you think I’m genuinely mistaken on specific points I’d appreciate elaboration with sources.

    “But what about…”

This policy covers AI use only. Maybe some of my concerns extend beyond AI but I’m not interested in a game of whataboutery. I’m open for contact should potential clients have serious questions about non-AI issues.

    “Personal use?”

I have no interest in using AI for personal use either.

I’ve been shocked to learn how many people don’t understand that creative hobby activities are as much, if not more, about the journey, act, and expression, as they are about the final result. The end product is not the only reward. I find no fun in AI.

    “I told you so.”

If I ever u-turn and start using AI that means the industry has shifted radically. It takes no effort to blindly predict a future where AI is unobjectionably perfect. Little of the current state of the tech industry indicates a positive trajectory.

    “You wrote that with AI!”

Futurama quote; an exasperated Professor Farnsworth says: ‘I Don’t Want to Live on this Planet Anymore’

    Anyway, enough of that.

The “NO-AI” badge is temporary and will adorn my website for now. It is not a canary. I reserve the right to move it or remove it regardless of policy change. There is also a link in the footer that will remain longer.

PS. despite what the title says I will accept a very large cheque. If you want me to pull a 180° and shill your AI start-up, and destroy all my credibility, it’s going to cost you.
