In response to the growing demand for a more localised online shopping experience, Taobao Malaysia has announced plans to introduce a Malay-language interface, expected to roll out in June 2025. This update will cater to the language preferences of Malaysian users and further strengthen Taobao’s cross-border e-commerce capabilities in the region.

The announcement comes as Taobao enjoys surging global popularity, having recently climbed to the second-most downloaded app in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and claiming the top spot in France. In Malaysia, Taobao has become the second-most downloaded iOS shopping app, underscoring strong local interest and consumer trust.

As the backbone of China’s e-commerce ecosystem, Taobao is known not only for its wide variety of affordable and high-quality products but also for revolutionising how consumers shop through immersive, AI-driven features. Today, Taobao serves as a hub for trend discovery, lifestyle inspiration, and personalised experiences.

Taobao’s localisation efforts in Malaysia began with the launch of its English interface in September 2024, powered by advanced AI technology that automatically translates platform content. The app currently supports bilingual customer service in English and Chinese, helping users navigate product listings and resolve queries with ease.

The platform has also simplified the shopping process by displaying product prices in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR) and streamlining the user interface for local familiarity. Backed by Antom and Cainiao, Taobao ensures a secure and efficient shopping journey with robust payment and logistics infrastructure.

Malaysian shoppers can enjoy a wide range of payment options, including debit and credit cards, online banking, e-wallets, and instalment plans, while real-time order tracking is available directly in the app for full transparency.
