If there’s any company that can reimagine smartphone designs, that would be Huawei, as the company has just introduced to the world the Huawei Pura X, which has a wide body with 3.5-inch display when folded and expands into a 6.3-inch 16:10 display when unfolded.

What’s interesting about the Pura X is its form factor, which unlike most foldables we see in the market, the 3.5-inch external screen is used as a main screen rather than being a companion screen for showing widgets and notifications, and when you want to enjoy content on a bigger canvas, the 16:10 aspect ratio ensures that you won’t get ugly thick black bars like you do on other foldable phones.

However, don’t go thinking that this is a super compact phone that will fit in your pockets well, because it measures 15.1mm when folded and 7.15mm when unfolded, it is also rather hefty at 196g for the glass back version.

In terms of durability, the Huawei Pura X is IPX8 water resistant that can be submerged up to 2 meters of fresh water for 30 minutes.

As a Pura device, you can expect top notch hardware on the Pura X, as both the external and internal screens are LTPO OLED screens that refreshes adaptively from 1Hz to 120Hz, the phone should also be powered by Huawei’s Kirin 9010 chipset paired with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage.

In terms of cameras, the Pura X has an impressive triple camera system that consists of a 50MP f/1.6 RYYB camera with OIS, a 40MP ultrawide camera and 8MP telephoto camera with OIS. The cameras also serve as the phone’s front facing camera which makes it superb for content creation and video calls, although it is unclear if it allows you to switch between different lenses during a video call.

The Pura X has a dual-cell 4720mAh battery with support for 66W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging.

The Huawei Pura X starts at CNY7499 (~RM4657) in China, no news on whether it will make its way out of its homeland but you never know, Malaysia could very well be on the top list if the company decides to do it.
