Amazon Games’ New World: Aeternum to go offline in January 2027
“While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honoured that we were able to share so much with the community,” says development team
Amazon Games is shutting down New World: Aeternum, announcing that the MMO will go offline on January 31, 2027.
The game was delisted yesterday (January 15), though players who purchased the game prior to this date will be able to play it until the servers are shut down next year.
From July 20, 2026, players will no longer be able to purchase in-game currency or any other items in game.
While there will be no new content for the remainder of New World’s life, the developer “will continue to monitor bugs and performance to ensure the game runs smoothly as things wind down.”
“We want to thank the players for your dedication and passion,” the development team said. “We are grateful for the time spent crafting the world of Aeternum with you. Together we built something special.
“While we are saddened to say goodbye, we’re honoured that we were able to share so much with the community.”
They continued: “It has been our pleasure to work on New World and evolve this unforgettable adventure with you all. We look forward to one more year together, and giving this fantastic adventure a sendoff worthy of a legendary hero. From the bottom of all our hearts, thank you for sharing this world with us.”
Last October, Amazon Games announced development would pause on New World and that it would receive no further content updates.
This came as part of wider cuts to Amazon’s infrastructure, which affected around 14,000 jobs as part of “organisational changes” aimed to “reduce bureaucracy, remove layers, and shift resources.”
New World: Aeternum (then titled New World) was originally set for release in August 2020. The game was subsequently delayed to September 2021 for its initial PC release, followed by the definitive version in October on PC and console.
