Apple Introduces iPhone 17 with Centre Stage Front Camera, 48MP Dual Fusion System, and Ceramic Shield 2

Apple today announced iPhone 17, a major upgrade that combines next-level photography, a brighter and tougher display, and the powerful A19 chip in a sleek new design. iPhone 17 features the all-new Centre Stage front camera for sharper selfies and video calls, a 48MP Fusion Main camera with 2x Telephoto, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera with advanced macro and wide-angle capabilities.

The new 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion delivers smoother scrolling, immersive gaming, and energy efficiency, while Ceramic Shield 2 offers 3x better scratch resistance and reduced glare compared to its predecessor. iPhone 17 is powered by the latest A19 chip, built on a 3nm process, ensuring higher performance, next-level mobile gaming, and support for Apple Intelligence.

The headline feature is the Centre Stage front camera, the first square sensor on iPhone, offering an 18MP resolution with a wider field of view. It automatically adjusts between portrait and landscape for group selfies, stabilises video in 4K HDR, and supports Dual Capture to record from the front and rear cameras at the same time.

On the rear, iPhone 17 packs a 48MP Fusion Main camera with an integrated 2x Telephoto, and a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera that captures up to four times more detail than the previous generation. Combined with new Photographic Styles and a Bright mode in iOS 26, users can personalise shots while maintaining natural skin tones. For video, iPhone 17 supports 4K60 Dolby Vision, Cinematic mode, Action mode, and immersive Spatial Audio recording.

The 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display introduces thinner bezels and adaptive refresh rates up to 120Hz. With up to 3000 nits peak outdoor brightness and 2x improved contrast, the display is easier to use under harsh sunlight. Always-On display keeps time, widgets, and Live Activities at a glance, while Ceramic Shield 2 enhances durability with improved scratch resistance and glare reduction.

The A19 chip brings 1.5x faster CPU performance and 2x faster GPU graphics compared to the A15 Bionic, while built-in Neural Accelerators handle advanced AI tasks. Battery life now extends to 30 hours of video playback, supported by new Adaptive Power Mode in iOS 26 for smarter energy management. Fast charging delivers 50 percent in just 20 minutes with the new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter.

Connectivity is boosted by Apple’s new N1 wireless chip, enabling Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, and Thread, with faster and more reliable performance for AirDrop, Personal Hotspot, and smart home integration.

Launching with iOS 26, iPhone 17 introduces Live Translation, on-device foundation models for developers, smarter call and message screening, and enhanced CarPlay, Apple Music, and Maps. Apple Games, a new app, consolidates all gaming activity into one hub. The Liquid Glass design brings a refreshed, fluid interface while maintaining iOS familiarity.

iPhone 17 debuts in five colours: black, lavender, mist blue, sage, and white. Storage starts at 256GB, with a 512GB option available. New accessories include Clear and Silicone Cases with MagSafe (RM239), a Crossbody Strap (RM299) in 10 colours, and a FineWoven Wallet with MagSafe (RM299). Charging accessories include the new 40W Dynamic Power Adapter (RM169) and Qi2-certified MagSafe Chargers priced from RM219.

    Pricing and Availability

iPhone 17 starts at RM3,999 for the 256GB model and is available for pre-order from Friday, September 12, with availability from Friday, September 19 in more than 63 countries, including Malaysia. A wider rollout to 22 more countries begins September 26. Customers can save through Apple Trade In, with up to RM4,400 in credits for newer devices.

iOS 26 will be available as a free update from September 15, while Apple Intelligence launches in beta with support for nine languages initially, expanding later this year.
