Google updates Pixel Tablet support window, giving you two more Android OS upgrades

Your Pixel Tablet will now receive guaranteed OS upgrades until June 2028.

    Joe Maring / Digital Trends

Google just gave Pixel Tablet owners a reason to hold onto their tablets for a little longer. The company has quietly extended software support for the tablet, and it will now receive two additional years of Android OS upgrades.

When the Pixel Tablet launched back in 2023, Google promised three years of Android OS upgrades and five years of security updates for the premium tablet. Later that year, the company updated its software update commitment with the launch of the Pixel 8 series, offering seven years of Android OS and security updates for the flagship phones.

The following year, Google extended support for Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, promising five years of OS and security updates instead of the previous three years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. The Pixel Tablet is next in line to receive the same treatment, and the news comes at the perfect time, as OS updates for the tablet were previously set to end in June 2026.

Two more years of Android OS updates are coming

According to 9to5Google, the support page for the Pixel Tablet has now been updated to reflect the new five-year support window for both OS and security updates. It states, “The Pixel Tablet runs Android OS. This device will get updates for 5 years starting from when the device first became available on the Google Store in the US. This includes 5 years of OS and security updates, and may also include new and upgraded features with Pixel Drops.”

This means the Pixel Tablet will now receive guaranteed OS upgrades until June 2028, bringing it in line with the Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series, as well as the original Pixel Fold. While that still falls short of Google’s seven-year update promise for Pixel 8 and newer devices, the extended support window is a welcome move. It gives existing Pixel Tablet users more incentive to continue using their devices and shows that Google’s long-term software support commitment is not limited to its newest hardware.

Pixelmator Pro, one of the best image editing apps, finally lands on the iPad

The older Pixelmator Photo app will no longer receive updates

Pixelmator Pro, one of the most highly regarded image editing apps on the Mac, has finally arrived on the iPad. The app, long regarded as one of the best Photoshop alternatives on the Mac, is now available on iPad as part of Apple’s new Creator Studio bundle.

The launch also brings a quiet but important change. Pixelmator Photo, the previous iPad-only app, is being phased out. While existing users can continue to use it, Apple says Pixelmator Photo will no longer receive updates.

A solid, everyday iPad for under $300 is back on the table

    Apple’s 11-inch iPad (A16, 128GB) is $299, a clean $50 discount on the sweet-spot model

The best iPad deals aren’t the flashy ones. They’re the ones that land on the model people actually use every day for years: streaming, reading, email, schoolwork, travel, and casual creativity. The 11-inch iPad with the A16 chip and 128GB of storage is $299.00, saving you $50 off the $349.00 compared value. It’s not a massive percentage drop, but it’s the kind of price that makes this iPad feel like an easy “yes” if you’ve been waiting for the right moment.

I used an Android tablet for 4 weeks, they still lag behind iPad in a number of ways

Here are the five key reasons that Android tablets don’t match iPads yet

Having tested lots of the best Android tablets over many years, I’ve become well acquainted with how Google’s operating system works on large-screen devices. I like some of them, and I’m a a regular user of Android myself  – but the fact that my go-to tablet for personal use remains an iPad Pro says it all.

The best Android phones remain some of the most-anticipated mobiles each year, yet historically, iPad has remained the dominant tablet force. I’ve just come off of a month of testing the OnePlus Pad Go 2, which should be a tempting iPad alternative due to its price and size (a 12-inch screen for a cost that’s comparable to the base-level 10-inch iPad), but that time just reminded me how far Android lags behind iPadOS.
