iPhone 17 Air may come with this Pro level spec after all – NotebookCheck.net News
It was speculated that the iPhone 17 Air will keep the base A19 chip like the iPhone 17, but a new leak hints at the A19 Pro being fitted into the phone. Now whether that makes up for the rest of the compromises, we’ll have to wait and see.
Apple is planning on shaking things up with its iPhone 17 series as it is expected to replace the Plus model with an iPhone 17 Air, the slimmest iPhone ever. For a while, the nerfed specifications of this rumored iPhone 17 Air have been doing the rounds, but it has now been tipped that it may match up to the Pro variants in more categories than previously expected.
The information comes from known leaker Fixed Focus Digital over on Weibo who claims that the iPhone 17 Air will feature the A19 Pro SoC and 12 GB of RAM, just like the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Max models. It was previously believed that the Pro SoC will be reserved for the Pro and Max models, but that might not be the case if the latest leak is accurate. Where it will differ is the GPU, with the Air model reportedly getting a five core GPU rather than the six core GPU in the Pro and Max models. On the other hand, the base iPhone 17 will come with the A19 and 8 GB of RAM.
Other than these specs, the iPhone 17 Air is expected to be full of compromises. It is said to come with a single 48MP rear camera, a tiny 2,800 mAh battery despite the Silicon-Carbon setup, and a single speaker. All this for the sake of a slimmer and lighter form factor which Apple itself believes a vast majority of customers will not go for. Speaking of dimensions, the phone is expected to be just 5.5 mm thick (9.5 mm around the camera bump).
As for pricing, the iPhone 17 Air is said to sit between the base iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro, which makes sense since it is replacing the Plus model. It should be noted that Apple has not shared any information about the upcoming iPhone 17 series so this is all speculation at this point, however, multiple industry analysts and insiders have shared much of the same information about the iPhone 17 Air.
