PC gamers may soon gain a key DualSense feature missing from the wireless PS5 controller – NotebookCheck.net News

Many PlayStation fans wish their DualSense offered the same innovations on every platform. The PS5 controller doesn’t emit advanced haptics when paired wirelessly with PCs. However, the third-party DSX app has discovered a way to achieve these rumbling effects through Bluetooth.

PC users enjoy immersive haptic feedback in many games with a wired DualSense. Players lose that functionality after pairing the PS5 controller through Bluetooth. Fortunately, the DSX app has found a workaround that makes the DualSense a more full-featured wireless PC controller.

Available on Steam, DSX provides more capabilities and customization for Sony’s controller. Recently, its developers posted an update on a long-awaited addition. To deliver authentic haptics, the PlayStation console wirelessly sends audio data. However, on PCs, most Bluetooth connections aren’t compatible with this signal.

As demonstrated in the video, the DSX program has replicated the haptic feedback that requires a USB-C cable. The app creates a virtual DualSense that’s seen as an audio device in Windows. Games then recognize it as a wired PS5 controller. DSX interprets audio and haptic data and sends it back via Bluetooth. While gamers may feel rumbling without the program, it’s not the nuanced vibrations experienced on the PS5.

Xbox controllers have advantages for PC gamers

PC gamers who prefer the ergonomics of the DualSense often face a dilemma. When used as wireless controllers, Xbox alternatives support the same features in many console and PC games. Frustratingly, Sony hasn’t released a Windows wireless driver that addresses its limitations. The company has been expanding its desktop offerings, which include Inzone keyboards and speakers. Yet one of its most popular accessories lacks essential features.

One positive sign was when Sony began offering a driver for gaming headsets like the Pulse Elite. PC owners can finally adjust settings and update firmware without relying on a PS5. As part of Sony’s multi-platform push, it’s likely to release more exclusive games on the PC. Offering parity in features between consoles and gaming PCs would only benefit PlayStation.

DSX is not free, but it can be purchased on Steam for a modest price. According to a developer’s comment in the YouTube video, the haptics update may arrive before the end of 2025.
