Prototype is an open-world action game in which you will have to discover the mysteries surrounding your past. And this, notably thanks to the extraordinary abilities that you will unlock during your adventure.

Prototype is an open world action game developed by Radical Entertainment and released in 2009. You will discover the story of a prototype with various powers and extraordinary abilities. But he has lost his memory, and your goal will be to find those responsible for this situation.

Thus, you embody Alex Mercer, a prototype with incredible metamorphosis abilities who wants to know the truth about what happened to him. It will be necessary to uncover the mysteries of your origins, but also your role in a global conspiracy that has been raging for more than 40 years.

Indeed, the action takes place in New York, where a powerful virus has infected a large part of the population. While the army tries to stop its spread, you will have to face numerous enemies and creatures. And for this, you have the possibility to modify your body by creating weapons for combat, but also for defense.

In addition, parkour is available, and you can run on the roofs of buildings or perform perilous acrobatics to achieve your goal. Moreover, the difficulty will increase over time, and your abilities will also improve, allowing you to discover new powers and exploit all your strength.

Thus, Prototype is an open-world game in which you will discover your true nature, but also a disturbing past by absorbing the memories of your enemies. And it is currently available for $3.99 on Steam until January 5, 2026, according to SteamDB.

However, while Prototype is highly rated by players on Steam, with 79% positive reviews, and has a score of 79 on Metacritic, some people point out performance issues. It should be noted that this game was released in 2009, and its adaptation to modern configurations is not perfect. In addition, the controls and boss difficulty are also criticized, which can cause some issues.
